Decorating

It's been nearly two weeks since Merlin had to be put down and the house has seemed very quiet, even though I still have two other cats.

I took Dickins, Merlins brother, to the vets for a checkup last week just to get his heart checked and he is fine, just overweight so he's on a diet and has to go to cat weight watchers!

Karen and I saw the stage show of The War Of The Worlds last week at the Echo Arena, it was very, very good. I'd seen it on Sky when they did the tour in 2006 so knew what to expect, but Karen didn't know what to expect, but she loved it.

We had a look at the list of up coming events and booked Pet Shop boys for July which should be good.

I've asked Karen to move in and as a result need to get cracking on sorting the spare room out so that there is more wardrobe space, I've got it half striped, just need to rip the wardrobes out, skirting and radiator, new ceiling can go up then get it skimmed all in just over two weeks!

Back home with a bump.

After a great holiday I returned home to a poorly cat, Merlin had lost a little weight while we were away and seemed to be panting a lot. I took him to the vets Monday morning and the vet was very worried as it sounded like he had a heart murmur, I rushed him to their main office where he could be xrayed and also have an ECG done.

I dropped him off at 10.30, at about 12.30 the vets rang to say that his condition had worsened and that he was suffering, they were essentially asking for permission to put him down. With a sad heart I gave them permission. He was only 9, a lovely cat, very affectionate. He'll be missed.

I'm having him cremated, just not sure what to do with his ashes.

Dusit Thani Hotel

We've been on Phuket Island for 5 days so far and the weather has been good, especially as it's monsoon season.

Today it peaked at 32'C which according to the weather channel applet on my phone felt more like 39, due to the humidity.

Below is a photo from our room in the hotel, although the red flags are up due to it being monsoon time I did manage to sneak a quick swim and the sea is lovely and warm, if not a little rough.

Things change

It's interesting how things change, especially technology. I'm sat in a hotel on Phuket island in Thailand writing this update, using their free wifi on my iPhone.

Even this time last year it would have seemed improbable that I would be able to do it without a laptop.

It's been a good holiday so far and a good break from the stresses of home, it's the first time I have been able to relax in a long time, with everything that happened last year I didn't really have a break or even feel like taking one.

Still that is all behind me and the only direction is forward. It's going to be a good year, not because I feel it or some mystic said so, but because I will make it so.

The holiday is not over yet so it's time for more relaxing, although with the loss of the air France plane I hope Karen doesn't get too worried as she doesn't like flying at the best of times.

Staying in Phuket has been a reminder as to how diverse people are and their relationships with each other. It's been nice to see as there is nothing seedy about it, there have been a couple of instances that do remind you that sometimes people appear to be for sale, but it does appear to be their choice.

Bangkok here we come!
